Canal Corridor Association’s Sesquicentennial Celebration
When the I&M Canal was completed in 1848, it connected New York Harbor and New Orleans, giving impetus to the meteoric growth in Chicago, forever changing Illinois’ landscape. One hundred and fifty years later, the canal again served as a catalyst, bringing together the diverse region of 49 communities and a host of park, trail and historic cities through its Illinois and Michigan Canal Sesquicentennial Celebration.
