George M. Pullman Elementary School
Chicago
Chicago Public Schools, Bauer Latoza Studio and Restoration Works, Inc. were awarded for the restoration of the 87-year-old George M. Pullman Elementary School in Chicago. The restoration involved tuckpointing and cleaning masonry and terracotta. The majority of the project centered on the restoration of the windows. A total of 336 of the school’s wooden windows had to be repaired, but with careful attention, 90 percent of the original fabric was preserved. The restoration of the George M. Pullman School has helped maintain the momentum of preserving all of the elements that make up the Pullman Historic District.
