Heurtley House
Oak Park
John Thorpe, Edward & Diana Baehrend, and Voc-Dreele-Freerksen Construction Co. received one of two such awards this year for the restoration of the Heurtley House, Oak Park. The house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1902 for his neighbors, Arthur and Grace Heurtley, and is widely acknowledged as a masterpiece of the Prairie Style of architecture. During the 1940s, the structure was significantly altered into a duplex and the house and grounds were allowed to deteriorate. Owners Edward and Diana Baehrend, who bought the Heurtley House in spring 1997, worked with restoration architect John Thorpe and completed a museum-quality restoration.
